So here we point you in the direction of some of our favourite local events, sights, and activities, to help you plan ahead for an extra-special stay in the area. Just be sure to mention Seckford Hall when you enquire, to find out about special rates for our hotel guests.

With specially designed child friendly walks available and with so many activities and family day trips located nearby, you will be spoilt for choice!

Because there are so many family activities and local attractions to visit, so we thought we would include a few of our favourites below.

All of these are situated close to Seckford Hall.

Sutton Hoo

SUTTON HOO is part of the National Trust and is a 255 acre Anglo-Saxon royal burial site. There’s so much to see and do here, from walks in nature exploring the burial grounds and woodland walks, to learning about the history behind Sutton Hoo and who the Anglo-Saxons were. There is also a cafe which serves a range of hot and cold food and a gift shop if you’re looking for a reminder of your visit, or a gift.

Bentwaters Cold War Museum

BENTWATERS COLD WAR MUSEUM gives you the opportunity to see inside the types of rooms that were used during the war, some of which have been restored to show their original purpose. This is fantastic day out for children and they will love looking at the amazing aircrafts that are on display, and they will also have the unique chance to see what life was like on a US airbase in the UK.

Framlingham Castle

FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE is a fantastic day out, the castle is surrounded by parkland and a lake and attractions include a wall walk which stands 10.5 metres high and has stood for over 800 years! You can learn more about the history of the castle and its former residents including Mary Tudor who was proclaimed Queen of England at the castle in 1553. There is also a cafe and shop on site if you’d like to take home a reminder of your visit.

Suffolk Heritage Coast

Enjoy 50 miles of stunning Suffolk coastline, stretching from Great Yarmouth to Felixstowe, boasting beautiful stretches of sandy and pebble beaches along the way and including areas in the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape.

A trip to Southwold and Aldeburgh is a must do and to taste their famous fish and chips whilst you’re there.

Take a tour of Southwold’s Adnams Brewery and Aldeburgh’s Fishers Gin Distillery for thirst quenching activities and browse their collection of independent boutique shops to take a bit of Suffolk home with you.

Areas to visit:

  • Aldeburgh – with its long stretch of shingle beach and iconic Scallop Shell art installation by Maggi Hambling. Taste the delights of one of Britain’s best fish and chip shops as you take in the view
  • Dunwich – the stunning purple hues of the heathlands stretch out to the sandy coastline, a great place to spot wildlife and rare plants
  • Felixstowe – a family favourite, with it’s pier and amusements
  • Lowestoft – for family beach days and sandy toes with it’s sandy Blue Flag Beach
  • Orfordness – remote, unspoilt coastal wilderness with a hidden past
  • Southwold – charming beach lined with some of the most expensive beach huts. A short stroll to shops, pubs and restaurants
  • Thorpeness – take a stroll along the shingle beach and take a look at the House in the Clouds as you explore the boating lake and village inland
  • Walberswick – famous for its crabbing activities, this secluded coastal village is one of Suffolk’s hidden gems.


Jimmy’s Farm

Jimmy’s Farm is an award-winning farm and wildlife park located on the outskirts on Ipswich. Enjoy the fresh country air, view rare breeds and exotic animals from over 100 species and breeds. The adventure playground and woodland adventure area also offers the perfect place to entertain the little ones, enjoying nature, making dens and taking the walk through time meeting creatures from history. A great family day out!

Dunwich Heath and Beach

National Trust Dunwich Heath and Beach is the perfect place or those of the two and four-legged variety with a stunning coastal stroll. Check out their pawprint guides, events and maps to explore and escape on an adventure.

Take in a show

Enjoy the arts during your visit with a show or trip to the cinema. There’s plenty to choose from just a short drive from the hotel.

Ipswich Regent Theatre and concert venue  Music, comedy, stage show and performance venue with national theatre, comedy and music tours.

New Wolsey Theatre An award-winning local 400-seater producing theatre showcasing a diverse selection of theatre productions and live performances.

Ipswich Cineworld Check out the latest new release movies and national theatre productions on the big screen.

The Riverside Cinema,Woodbridge Watch a new release, stage shows at the longest continuously running cinema in East Anglia (Est 1915) in a 260-seater setting.

Dovercourt Bay Beach

DOVERCOURT BAY BEACH is a tranquil, family friendly beach located near the historic town of Harwich. There are lots of facilities on the beach promenade including a boating lake, skate park and it’s also close to Hemford Water National Nature Reserve which is known for it’s resident seals. With a beach that stretches for miles, you can enjoy a range of activities including cycling, walking and water based activities.
