Whether you want to wander the halls of ancient noble houses, picnic in a vineyard, feast on local fare at a food festival, or enjoy the Suffolk scenery from the seat of a bicycle, go-kart, or classic car, our county has it all.
So here we point you in the direction of some of our favourite local events, sights, and activities, to help you plan ahead for an extra-special stay in the area. Just be sure to mention Seckford Hall when you enquire, to find out about special rates for our hotel guests.
With specially designed child friendly walks available and with so many activities and family day trips located nearby, you will be spoilt for choice!
Because there are so many family activities and local attractions to visit, so we thought we would include a few of our favourites below.
All of these are situated close to Seckford Hall.
SUTTON HOO is part of the National Trust and is a 255 acre Anglo-Saxon royal burial site. There’s so much to see and do here, from walks in nature exploring the burial grounds and woodland walks, to learning about the history behind Sutton Hoo and who the Anglo-Saxons were. There is also a cafe which serves a range of hot and cold food and a gift shop if you’re looking for a reminder of your visit, or a gift.
Bentwaters Cold War Museum is based in the United States Air Force (USAF) hardened command post on the former Bentwaters airbase.
The airbase closed after the withdrawal of the USAF in 1993 and is believed to be the only such building open to the public in the UK and Europe. Today, the site is run by volunteers from Bentwaters Aviation Society. Visitors can experience the Cold War history with guides and talks about the operations of the base with detailed displays of the units stationed at both RAF Bentwaters and nearby RAF Woodbridge since WWII.
Aircraft on display include a Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt, Hawker Hunter, McDonnell Douglas Phantom, Republic F-84F Thunderstreak, Bristol Bloodhound missile and Hawker Harrier. New for 2024 is a tour of the restoration hangar with the BAC Jaguar, Gloster Meteor, Lockheed T-33 and English Electric Lightning.
Visitors can also see the fully restored War Operations Room and Battle Cabin. A new American Diner themed café and shop is open for food and drinks.
FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE is a fantastic day out, the castle is surrounded by parkland and a lake and attractions include a wall walk which stands 10.5 metres high and has stood for over 800 years! You can learn more about the history of the castle and its former residents including Mary Tudor who was proclaimed Queen of England at the castle in 1553. There is also a cafe and shop on site if you’d like to take home a reminder of your visit.
Snape Maltings sits on the bank of the River Alde, surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just six miles from Aldeburgh. The beautiful heritage destination, with its converted Victorian buildings, is home to independent shops, galleries, a restaurant and dog-friendly café, and several performance venues including Snape Maltings Concert Hall. Enjoy 50 miles of stunning Suffolk coastline, stretching from Great Yarmouth to Felixstowe, boasting beautiful stretches of sandy and pebble beaches along the way and including areas in the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape.
A trip to Southwold and Aldeburgh is a must do and to taste their famous fish and chips whilst you’re there.
Take a tour of Southwold’s Adnams Brewery and Aldeburgh’s Fishers Gin Distillery for thirst quenching activities and browse their collection of independent boutique shops to take a bit of Suffolk home with you.

Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park is an award winning wildlife park, rare breeds farm, restaurant and wedding venue based in the heart of Suffolk.
The wildlife park, owned by TV presenter and conservationist Jimmy Doherty, is home to world class facilities such as Europe’s largest polar bear reserve. ‘Sharing the Good Life’ encapsulates their belief that the natural world should be accessible and available to all and they have a newly launched charity called Space for the Wild which will drive their conservation efforts.
From pigs to polar bears the park is a centre of excellence for British rare breeds as well as camels, primates, tapir and crocodiles amongst other animals.
Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum is a Grade I listed building dating back to 1170 and one of only two tide mills producing flour. Restoration has made it a popular, interactive museum where working machinery and milling demonstrations bring its rich history to life for the public, groups and schools www.woodbridgetidemill.org.uk.
One of Suffolk’s most treasured buildings, this beautiful Tudor mansion is the jewel in the crown of Ipswich’s historic past, boasting over 500 years of history.
Explore the period rooms from the Tudor kitchen to the sumptuous Georgian saloon and the beautifully detailed Victorian wing.
Gaze at the fine collection of art from Suffolk artists including the biggest collection of Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable paintings outside of London.

There are lots of facilities on the beach promenade including a boating lake, skate park and it’s also close to Hemford Water National Nature Reserve which is known for it’s resident seals. With a beach that stretches for miles, you can enjoy a range of activities including cycling, walking and water based activities.
