The Story
What made Seckford Hall Hotel and Spa stand out to you?
From the start, Seckford Hall just felt like the place for us. It has that perfect mix of being stunning and grand, but still relaxed and welcoming, which worked so well for our black tie wedding.
A huge factor for us was being able to have everyone stay onsite. It meant it wasn’t just a wedding day, it became a full weekend with all our favourite people, which made it feel really special (and a lot more fun).
What made Seckford Hall stand out for you?
Honestly, the team made everything feel so easy. They couldn’t have been more helpful and were always on hand to answer questions or sense-check ideas.
We visited Seckford a few times throughout the year which just built the excitement each time, and Suffolk has now become such a special place for us because of that.
On the day itself, everything ran so smoothly it almost felt like magic. People were clearly there making things happen behind the scenes, but it never felt intrusive, which meant we could just switch off and enjoy it.
Tell us about your wedding journey in the lead up to your wedding and how did you feel?
We made it into a two-day celebration, which made such a difference. Having everyone together the night before for a BBQ meant we actually got time to properly see people before the whirlwind of the wedding day.
By the time the day arrived, it was mostly excitement (with a few nerves thrown in), but in the best way.
With several ceremony spaces available, where did you choose and why?
We chose to have our ceremony outside because the building is just too beautiful not to make the most of. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, which completely came together for us and made the whole setting feel even more special.
What was your favourite moment of the day?
Walking down the aisle was definitely a standout. It was that mix of nervous and excited, but then seeing everything set up and everyone there waiting for us just made it feel a bit surreal in the best way.
Also, the confetti moment straight after the ceremony was just pure joy, one of those moments where you can’t stop smiling.
What food did you choose? Is there a reason for your choices?
The food was a big deal for us and Seckford absolutely delivered. We had scallops and peach panzanella to start, followed by roast beef and chicken, and then sticky toffee pudding and lemon cheesecake (which went down very well). In the evening we had a Greek meze, which everyone loved. We were told it was amazing… but we were slightly too busy dancing to properly appreciate it ourselves.
With unlimited photo opportunities, where was your favourite spot?
It’s hard to choose because the whole venue is beautiful, but our favourite photos ended up being at the front of the building with the red autumn leaves, and down by the lake. Both felt very “us” and made the most of the setting.
What was your favourite space/area at Seckford Hall? Why was this your favourite space and how did you use it?
One of our favourite things was being able to move into the hotel bar after midnight and keep the celebrations going. It meant the night didn’t feel like it had an abrupt end, and we ended up dancing far longer than planned, which was exactly what we wanted.
Tell us about your evening reception, did you party the night away?
Our evening reception was in the Great Hall, which worked perfectly for bringing everything together.
We had a mix of suppliers including a photobooth, video guest book, sweets and an illustrator, plus an incredible live band. It could have been chaos, but everything was handled so smoothly and just felt like one big, fun party.
Did either of you stay the night before? Did you enjoy being closer the night before?
Yes, and we’d definitely recommend it. We had a BBQ the day before to welcome everyone, which made it feel like the celebrations had already started before the wedding even began.
It also meant we could wake up feeling calm (as calm as you can be on your wedding day) and already in the moment.
Did you enjoy Seckford Hall Hotel and Spa, the day following your wedding? What did you do?
Staying the day after was one of the best decisions we made. After saying goodbye to everyone, we got to properly slow down, spend time together as a married couple and enjoy the spa. It was the perfect way to come back down to earth after such a busy, brilliant couple of days.
Any suppliers that you would recommend to others?
Kaye Souter, our florist, completely understood what we wanted and made everything look incredible. Effortless Events were great for the photobooth and video guest book, and Funkchan absolutely made the night, the dance floor was full from start to finish.
